Baseball: Demillio Tosses a Gem as Wildcats Open Spring Break 2-0

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Sophomore Matthew Demillio (Greensburg) pitched a complete game leading the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team to a 9-1 win over Salem County College. The game was the second of the day for the Wildcats as they competed in the first day of the Ripken Experience Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Penn College defeated County College of Morris 5-4 in the day's opener.

Against Salem, Demilio pitched seven strong allowing only one run with three hits and four strikeouts. Penn College (2-2) gave him an early cushion scoring three in the first with junior Josh Longsderff (Columbia), sophomore Travis Hendershot (Muncy) and freshman Luke Zamiskie (Latrobe) each notching RBIs.

In the third, Hendershot hit a double off the right center wall to score two. Sophomore Nicholas Fazio (Norristown) followed up with a two-run shot making it 7-0. Fazio and Hendershot both ended the game 2 for 4.

The Wildcats closed out their tab in the fourth with two runs. Longsderff walked with the bases loaded and Hendershot followed with a sacrifice fly.

Penn College scored early against Morris with two runs in the first. Freshman Jeremy Rall (Williamsport) and sophomore Zachary Weil (Kutzdown) hit back-to-back RBI singles. Junior Brian Santangelo (Middletown, Conn.) got the start on the mount pitching the first four innings with five hits and four runs.

Rall finished the game 1 for 3 with two RBI.

After Morris took the lead at 4-2 in the fourth, the Wildcats came back in the bottom of the inning with three runs off of four hits. Rall and sophomore Craig Watson (McEwensville) and freshman James Simasek (Landenberg) each recorded RBI.

Sophomore Zachary Buterbaugh (Conestoga) closed out the game with a five-out save. Freshman Seth Bowersox (Port Royal) recorded the win in relief going 1.3 innings with one hit.

Also for Penn College, Zachary Buterbaugh was 2 for 4 with a double and Longsderff was 2 for 3.

Next up, the Wildcats face North Central Missouri College at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 12.
