Beaver Bounces Back

By: Cory Wagner

Butler, PA - After losing the first game of the 2012 PSUAC playoffs, Beaver battled back to win their second game by a score of 5-4 over Penn College.

Cory Wagner (Monaca, Center High School) started on the hill for Beaver, and gave up 3 runs in 5 innings of work. Zack DelTurco (Monaca, Monaca) then came in for relief and pitched two innings giving up one run.

Penn scored 2 in the first to take the lead, but Beaver fought back to tie the game after the fourth inning. Penn then added one more in the fifth but Beaver scored two in the sixth from a Grant Scott (Sewickley, Ann Arbor Pioneer) two-run home run. Penn tied the game at 4 in the top of the seventh, but Markus Allen (New Castle, Union) singled and stole second and eventually scored on a wild pitch to seal the victory for Beaver.

Scott had three hits and two RBI for Beaver, while Andrew DiPietrantonio (Beaver, Beaver) and Allen each had two hits. DiPietrantonio and DelTurco also had an RBI each.

The victory gave Beaver the opportunity to continue their quest for the PSUAC conference title and will play Greater Allegheny later today.
