Baseball Eliminated From PSUAC Tournament

Butler, Pa- The Greater Allegheny baseball team entered the day just a win away from returning to the PSUAC Championship for the second straight season.  However, after falling 4-1 in the winner's bracket semi-final game to Penn State Mont Alto, GA was then eliminated by Penn State Beaver after being beaten 8-1.

Greater Allegheny fell behind 4-0 early in game against Penn State Mont Alto, and were only able to scratch 1 run across on just 4 hits.  Sophomore outfielder Zak Schmidt (Moon, PA) had the lone RBI on a sacrifice fly, driving in junior third baseman Jason Paris (Chartiers Houston, PA).  Freshman Eddie Emes (New Brighton, PA) suffered the loss, pitching just 2.1 innings.  Emes (5-3) gave up 3 runs on 3 hits, while striking out and walking 2.  Freshman Aaron McGee (Penn Trafford, PA) pitched well in 4.2 innings of relief, giving up just 1 run and striking out 7.

Against Penn State Beaver, Greater Allegheny again fell behind early, trailing 5-0 through 3 innings of play.  Beaver would tack on 3 more, and allowed just 1 GA runner to score.  Junior catcher Josh Kubisz (Goose Creek, SC) singled home junior Mike Pryor (CCAC-Boyce), who had reached on a walk.  Senior Teddy Fricke (Carrick, PA) took the loss, giving up 8 runs and 10 hits over 5 innings.  Fricke (4-2) struck out and walked 1.  Freshman Matt Klena (Shaler, PA) pitched a scoreless inning, striking out 2.

With the two losses, Greater Allegheny ends their season at 28-15 overall and 15-6 in the PSUAC.  Unable to repeat as regular season and tournament champions, GA still finished third in both the regular season standings and in the tournament.
