Brandywine Tops Fayette To Earn First Victory

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine built a 21-point halftime lead and rolled to its first women's basketball victory of the season, a 71-52 triumph at Penn State Fayette on Saturday afternoon.

Fayette scored the first basket of the day, but Brandywine held the hosts scoreless for the next seven minutes, building an 11-2 edge. The Lions opened up a lead of 20-5 following a layup from Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) before Fayette notched the final four points of the opening period to get within 20-9.

Brandywine continued to pull away in the second as Dairayonna Stewart-Harold (New Castle, Del./William Penn) buried a three-pointer at the 6:38 mark, jumpstarting an 11-0 surge during the next 71 seconds.

The Lions held a 40-19 advantage at halftime and never let the lead dip below 19 points during the third period. Katelyn Johnson's (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) triple with 1:26 to go in the stanza opened up the largest margin of the day at 54-31.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) topped four double-figure scorers with 18 points. Athena Brombacher (Vacaville, Calif./Will C. Wood) notched 16 points, while Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied 14 and Stewart-Harold added 11. Loper and Johnson both tallied six points.

Floyd also led the rebounding effort with seven boards and Diawara grabbed six, while Johnson tallied a team-high five assists. Johnson and Stewart-Harold both collected four steals for the Lions, who produced 21 steals overall.

Brandywine (1-3, 1-1 PSUAC) will play on its home floor for the first time on Nov. 28 when the Lions host Penn State Scranton at 6:00 PM.
