Brandywine Runs Away From Schuylkill In 75-64 Victory

MEDIA, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine opened the fourth quarter with nine-straight points and pulled away from Penn State Schuylkill, earning a 75-64 Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions held a 53-49 edge entering the final 10 minutes, but Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) sparked a run of nine consecutive points for the Lions with a layup. Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) followed with five points and Athena Brombacher's (Vacaville, Calif./Will C. Wood) putback layup made the count 62-49 with 7:50 to play.

Schuylkill cut the margin to nine points, but Floyd and Katelyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) answered with back-to-back baskets. Two minutes later, the Lions' edge swelled to 17 as Koger buried her third triple of the afternoon and Dairayonna Stewart-Harold (New Castle, Del./William Penn) added a bucket.

Prior to the fourth quarter, the game was tightly-contested. The teams were tied 18-18 after one period before Brandywine used an 11-4 spurt to move in front 33-25 midway through the second quarter. 

Schuylkill trimmed its deficit to 35-33 at the break and led by as many as three points during the third quarter. Brandywine countered Schuylkill's three-point edge with a trio of three-pointers during a span of 54 seconds as Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) buried a pair and Stewart-Harold followed with a triple.

Floyd topped five double-figure scorers for the Lions with 20 points. She moved into second place all-time in scoring, passing Dana Johnson (1,519) with 1,534 career points.

Koger sank a season-high three triples and paired 15 points with eight rebounds and four assists. Brombacher notched an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Diawara collected 11 points and seven boards. Stewart-Harold added 10 points and six rebounds.

Brandywine netted 30 points off 27 Schuylkill turnovers and limited the visitors to 3-for-19 shooting from three-point range.

Brandywine (7-8, 6-4 PSUAC) is back at home Wednesday to host Penn State York at 6:00 PM.
