Women's hoops splits weekend road trip

Penn State Mont Alto 67, Penn State New Kensington 59

Penn State Mont Alto women's basketball picked up its fourth conference win of the young season as they traveled to New Kensington on Friday evening, winning by a final score of 67-59. Dariana Perez helped lead the balanced offensive attack with a team-high 19 points, including grabbing 16 rebounds. Kaleigh Hartman also had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Autumn Fischer and Shanez Morales each had 13 and were the other two Mont Alto scorers in double-digits.

 

Destiny Batiste played the entire game for New Kensington, she had a team-leading 18 points on 6 of 20 shooting and also had six assists. Esther Cole and Jayde Rivera each had 14 points to round out the leading scorers for the home team. 

 

The opening quarters of each half proved to be the difference in the game as Mont Alto won the first quarter 19-11 and the third 23-13. Mont Alto outshot New Kensington 48% to 32% 

 

 

Penn State Shenango 68, Penn State Mont Alto 64

Mont Alto traveled to Shenango for the tail end of their weekend crossover on Saturday afternoon. Mont Alto's comeback effort fell short as they fell to Penn State Shenango by a final of 68-64. Dariana Perez (26) and Kaleigh Hartman (22) combined for 48 of Mont Alto's 64 points in the game. Autumn Fischer tallied nine points and six rebounds. 

 

Shar'Da Williamson led Shenango in scoring with 23 points on 9 of 19 shooting and also collected 13 rebounds.

 

Shenango outscored Mont Alto 29-18 in the third quarter following a 32-25 halftime deficit which proved to play a big factor in the game. Seven different Shenango players scored in the third quarter.
