Women's Basketball Dominates Valley Forge

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball won by a large margin during Tuesday's non-conference matchup against NCAA Division III opponent University of Valley Forge.

Ava Novak (Numidia, PA / Southern Columbia High School) connected on three out of the five made three pointers for Schuylkill during the first period, shooting an outstanding 62 percent from three-point range to end the first quarter. Schuylkill held a 22-7 advantage heading into the second period.  

Continuing to add on to their lead, Schuylkill extended their lead to 20 points following a made jump shot by Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) with 2:05 to play in the second quarter.

Valley Forge shredded just two points from their deficit by the end of the third period as Katelynn Himes (Frackville, PA / North Schuylkill High School) traded baskets with Valley Forge throughout the period, scoring 10 of 12 Schuylkill points.

Schuylkill continued to gain separation due to their foul shooting during the final period, hitting 10 out of 12 free throws as they extended their lead to 31 points by the end of regulation.

Novak recorded a game-high 18 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Also putting up big numbers off the bench was Himes who finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Jones scored 12 points and 9 rebounds while Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) tallied a 10-point, 16 rebound double-double for Schuylkill.

Schuylkill (8-11 overall, 4-6 PSUAC) will play the second half of their back-to-back on Tuesday as they travel to PSUAC opponent Penn State Scranton. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
