Women's Basketball Falls Short Against Penn State Brandywine

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball fell to PSUAC opponent Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday.

After a Brandywine bucket on their first possession, a three-pointer by Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) ignited a 9-0 run for Schuylkill, giving them a significant lead with 6:45 left in the opening quarter. The following minute saw Brandywine fight back to tie the game at 11-11. The rest of the period featured three ties and two lead changes, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead. A last-second basket by Crockett gave Schuylkill a two-point advantage heading into the second quarter.

Brandywine started the second quarter with a run, establishing a double-digit lead halfway through the period. They carried this momentum into the third quarter, where they experienced similar success. Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) led the offense for Schuylkill in the third, contributing 8 of her 15 points during the period.

Starting the fourth quarter trailing 62-38, Jones scored for Schuylkill on their first possession to kick off their efforts. Crockett then scored 10 consecutive points to narrow the deficit. After a made basket by Brandywine with 5:19 remaining, Schuylkill continued to fight, going on an 11-2 run to reduce their deficit to 10 points late in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, Schuylkill outscored Brandywine 28 to 16 while shooting 61 percent from the field.

Crockett led Schuylkill with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Jones finished with a 15-point, 10 rebound double-double. Also securing a double-double was Ava Novak (Numidia, PA / Southern Columbia High School) who finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Schuylkill (13-14 overall, 7-9 PSUAC) will travel to Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday, February 17th. Tip off is set for 5:00 p.m.
