Beaver Ends Day 1 of Spring Training With a Tie Against Gettysburg College
Myrtle Beach, SC - The Lions ended their first day in Myrtle Beach taking on Gettysburg College. This game ended in a 3-3 tie after 6 innings, and will be finalized at a later date.
To start the game, Gettysburg cam out scoring first with 1 run in the first inning. After a hard battle Beaver was finally able to score in the 3rd inning with 2 runs, while Gettysburg scored another run in the same inning bringing the score 2-2. Neither team scored again until the 5th inning where both teams scored 1 run. After 6 innings, the game ended in a tie.
Senior Chloe Coleman (Moon Twp, PA) led the way for Beaver this game scoring 2 runs off 2 hits after 4 at bats, as well as hitting 2 doubles. Sophmore Elena Denezza (New Brighton, PA and Sophmore Bre Thomas (Ambridge, PA) each had an RBI this game helping them get that much closer to a victory. Senior Valentina Sandoval (Miami, FL) was the other player to score a run this game after having clutch bunts and playing the field well.
Beavers fielding was led by Sophomore, Bre Thomas (Ambridge, PA) who started the game on the mound and pitched 5 our of 6 innings. Giving up only 4 hits, and 3 walks, Thomas played well and had 2 strikeouts. Freshman, Leeanna West (Milford, NY) came in for relief for Beaver pitching 1 inning and only giving up 1 hit.
