Lambert's Grand Slam Propels Builders To Win Over #3 PSU-Mont Alto

Lambert's Grand Slam Propels Builders To Win Over #3 PSU-Mont Alto

DuBois, PA – As with day 2, the Apprentice Baseball team was looking to win and move on to the afternoon session of the USCAA Small College World Series.  After winning two straight on Tuesday, the Builders faced #3 seed Penn State-Mont Alto in anther elimination game.  The team scored a total of 24 runs yesterday and they were hoping to get the same production at the plate against the Nittany Lions.

Both teams had solid pitching through the first and second innings, but PSU-Mont Alto would strike first in the third as they scored a run to take the early lead, 1-0.  Apprentice had an opportunity, loading the bases in the top of the fourth, but were unable to take advantage of the opportunity.  However, Thomas Packert would help the Builders tie the game in the fifth, as his sacrifice fly drove home Connor Gregory.  In the top of the sixth inning, Braden Lambert homered to left field, scoring Kyle Whitlock to take a two run lead, 3-1.  Lambert would do it again in top of the seventh inning, this time hitting a grand slam to extend Apprentice's advantage to 7-1.  That is all they would need, as the Builders would knock off the Nittany Lions to move on to play later tonight.

Bryce Post pitched the first three innings, only giving up 1 run and 1 hit, and then Packert came in pitching four scoreless innings, while striking out 8 batters.  Offensively, Apprentice was led by Lambert who finished the game 3-3 with 2 HR's (1 Grand Slam) and 6 RBI's.  The win keeps the Builders alive and they will play the winner of #1 seed PSU-DuBois and #7 seed Bucks County at 5:30pm.  Stay tuned to www.gobuilders.com for game schedules and updates.
