Brandywine Falls 79-68 In Return From Break

MEDIA, Pa. -- Following a month-long break, the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team returned to the court Saturday morning, dropping a 79-68 home decision to Immaculata.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) paced four double-figure scorers for the Lions with 15 points, while Athena Brombacher (Vacaville, Calif./Will C. Wood) notched a 10-point, 15-rebound double-double and handed out five assists. Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tallied 13 points and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) added 12 markers.

Brandywine scored six of the game's first seven points and led nearly wire-to-wire during the opening period, holding a 17-15 edge through 10 minutes.

The Lions extended the lead to five points following a Diawara triple early in the second, but the Mighty Macs used a 17-4 run spanning nearly four minutes to vault in front. Brandywine trimmed a deficit that had grown to nine points down to just five at the break following free throws from Dairayonna Stewart-Harold (New Castle, Del./William Penn) and Katelyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) during the final 1:53.

Brombacher opened the second half with a layup and Allen followed with a pair of baskets as Brandywine claimed the lead at 38-37; however, Immaculata answered with 24 of the next 30 points to take command of the game.

The Mighty Macs' lead swelled as large as 20 points during the fourth quarter before a late 9-0 Brandywine run provided the final margin.

Brandywine forced 21 Immaculata turnovers, but was marred by 30 percent shooting from the field. The Mighty Macs connected on 47 percent of their field goal attempts and sank 10-of-12 free throws.

Brandywine (3-7, 3-3 PSUAC) returns to conference play on Friday at home against Penn State Shenango at 6:00 PM.
