Mustangs take first two out of three
Mustangs 2-1 so far on spring trip
 
The CM baseball team are five days into their spring trip and are sitting at 2-1.
In game 1 against Penn St Scranton, it took the Mustangs a bit to get going until Garren Post smashed a towering two run homer in the top of of the sixth to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead. The Mustangs went on to score five more runs in the inning and came away with a 7-2 win.
Colton Frisbie had two hits including a double in the win. Rolando Rodriguez added a triple and an RBI.
Trevor Phelps started on the mound for Mustangs going four innings giving up only two hits and striking out four. Garret Harvey got the win in relief going the final three frames striking out four.
 
In game two against Penn St Scranton, the Mustangs scored early and often and never looked back in a 16-4 victory in five innings due to the mercy rule.
Jimmy Reed had three hits and four RBI from the leadoff spot. Rodriguez added another two hits and two RBI. Evan Eldridge, Mason Booker and Fenway Letendre were all repeat hitters for the Mustangs.
Derek Roman got the start on the pump going three innings giving up only one hit and one unearned run. Jack Cote and Jeff Meisner pitched in relief.
 
In the Mustangs first game in Myrtle Beach, they let one slip away against County College of Morris being defeated 6-3. The Mustangs left 13 runners on base, 8 in scoring position.
Zach Mann and Post led the way with a hit and an RBI each. Mann, Rodriguez and Avery MacWhinnie each had runs scored.
Shane Sullivan, Roman and Brogan McCormick shared the pitching duties combining for seven strikeouts.
 
"It feels good to get the spring season started" said head coach Ryan Palmer. "It was very possible for us to be undefeated but we have to freshen up on the small things" "We can't be leaving 13 runners on base against a good team" "But overall I'm very pleased with our pitching and defense"
 
The Mustangs are back in action on Wednesday morning in Myrtle Beach against Bergen Community College at 9:00am then Brookdale Community College at Noon.
