Women's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Three Following Win Over Central Penn

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball extended their winning streak to three games following their Thursday night victory over USCAA opponent Central Penn.

With Central Penn holding an 11-4 lead with 3:53 left in the first period, Monet Edwards (Philadelphia, PA / Swenson Arts and Technology High School) knocked down a jump shot to kickstart a 10-3 Schuylkill run to end the quarter, capped off by consecutive three-point baskets by Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) and Ava Novak (Numidia, PA / Southern Columbia High School).

With the score even at the start of the second, Central Penn extended their lead to two possessions and held on to their advantage until a basket by Novak gave Schuylkill a 33-31 lead with 1:38 to go in the half.

Positioned at the high post, Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) found Novak as she beat her defender back door, expanding Schuylkill's lead to 40-35 with 6:38 left in the third. Subsequently, Schuylkill went on a 10-0 run, increasing their lead to 15 points with 2:35 left in the period. A last-minute three-point shot by Central Penn, just before the quarter concluded, brought them within single digits heading into the fourth.

Central Penn initiated a run at the start of the fourth, closing the gap to two points with 2:42 left in regulation. Schuylkill then executed an 8-0 run, featuring a three-point basket by Crockett and consecutive jump shots by Edwards, creating separation and securing the victory over Central Penn.

Novak led Schuylkill with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Wright added 13 points and 5 rebounds, Crockett recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds. Edwards scored 11 points off the bench.

Schuylkill (10-11 overall, 5-6 PSUAC) will host Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m.
