Fayette battles with Defending National Champions

Lemont Furnace, PA- Fayette goes set to set with the defending National Champions.

Fayette came out strong against Penn State Mont Alto, starting off the first set with a 12-4 lead. However, the set ended closer than expected with a score of 25-23 with a set dump by USCAA Setter of the Week, Emma Eckert. Set two had a different feel with a back and forth battle coming down to the wire with Mont Alto taking it 25-21. Despite another battle in the third, towards the end Mont Alto took it handedly 25-19. Heading into the fourth set it was a must win for Fayette to stay alive. Fayette turned on the gas, leading by as must as 7 at one point in the set. Fayette finished the set 25-17, making a statement heading into the fifth. The final battle commenced with both teams wanting to stay undefeated in the conference. The defending National Champions took the victory 16-14 in the final set.

Coach Anna commented on the hard fought match, "We did not have a full team today and had to switch up our line up. It was an unfortunate loss but definitely a lesson learn to be able to finish strong. We're proud of the girls for working through a new lineup and fighting till the end."

Fayette will travel to Ohio this weekend to take on UCC, another USCAA National Championship contender from previous seasons.
