Women's Basketball Tops Penn State Fayette

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball defeated PSUAC opponent Penn State Fayette on Saturday.

After an early 10-2 run by Fayette to kick off the quarter, Schuylkill swiftly narrowed the deficit with a 7-1 run, bringing their deficit to just two points as they entered the second quarter.

Jasmine Wright's (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) and-one play with 1:34 left in the second quarter propelled Schuylkill back into the lead at 21-19, marking their first lead since the early stages of the game.

Although trailing in the early part of the second half, Fayette managed to level the game at 25-25 with 6:14 remaining in the third period. However, Schuylkill responded emphatically, embarking on a 15-2 run to conclude the quarter.

A basket by Ava Novak (New Media, PA / Southern Columbia High School) concluded a 9-2 surge by Schuylkill at the start of the fourth quarter, establishing a commanding 49-29 lead with 6:43 left in the contest. Despite Fayette's late-quarter run that narrowed the deficit to single digits within the final minute, Schuylkill secured the victory by converting six free throws down the stretch.

Novak led the way for Schuylkill, tallying game highs in points (21) and rebounds (13). Wright finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) notched 10 points. Katelynn Himes (Frackville, PA / North Schuylkill High School) recorded 7 points and 9 rebounds.  

Schuylkill (6-10 overall, 3-5 PSUAC) will remain in conference play as they host Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday, January 16th. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
