Beaver rolls past Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa.––The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team keeps its winning streak alive after defeating Geneva College in Tuesday's road bout, 77-57.
Junior guard Diamond Thomas (Pittsburgh/Carlynton) led the offense for Beaver tonight with 21 points, nine steals, eight rebounds and eight assists, followed by sophomore guard Alexis Cross (Columbiana), who finished with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Sophomore forward Jimya Chambers (Phoenix/Westview) made her presence known, finishing with a double-double with 12 points, 10 boards, three steals, one assist and one block for the night.
1st quarter: The Lady Lions came out strong and took an 8-0 in the opening minutes of the game. However, Geneva cut Beaver's led down to 2 points shortly after. At 2:50, Thomas banked a jump shot to bump the Lady Lion's lead to double digits (20-10). The defense then held Geneva to only 2 points, and Beaver ended the first up by 16 (28-12).
2nd quarter: While Geneva was able to get within 10 points of the Lady Lions, they stayed ahead by double-digits for the entire quarter. Thomas put up 7 of the team's 16 points in the quarter, giving Beaver a 44-30 lead at halftime.
3rd quarter: Beaver outscored Geneva 21-13 in the quarter to give the tea a 65-43 advantage heading to the final quarter. Chambers, Cross and Thomas combined for 15 of 21.
4th quarter: The Lady Lions build their largest lead of the night of 24 points at the 9:48 minute mark after a foul by Geneva sent Cross to the charity-stripe for 2 to bring the lead to 67-43. The Lady Lions never looked back and won by a final score of 77-57.
Box Score Highlights: The Lady Lions also outscored Geneva 31-9 on points off turnovers, 52-40 on points in the paint and 28-12 on fast-break points. Beaver also picked up eight more assists and 17 fewer turnovers than Geneva.
After tonight's win, the Lady Lions improve to a 5-1 record overall and sit at a 3-0 in the PSUAC standings. The Lady Lions will be on the road for their next game on Saturday, Nov. 30, where the team will face off against Westminster College. The game begins at 1:30 p.m.
