Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver baseball team traveled to Penn State New Kensington on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader matchup to end their 2021 season.
Game one on Saturday was a back and forth offense battle between Beaver and New Kensington. With 24 hits recorded in this game, 14 by Beaver, both teams were hot at the plate from beginning to end in this one. The fourth inning would be the deciding point in this matchup, as both teams would rally on offense, but it would be Beaver's 2 run edge coming out of the fourth that would give them enough breathing room to finish the game out. Thanks to a fantastic performance by Junior Jacob Beck (Brighton, Pa / Beaver) on the mound and at the plate, where he would go 4-4 with a double while scoring a run, Beaver would secure their victory by final score of 8-5.
In game two, Beaver would once again be locked in an offense battle with New Kensington, but this time missed opportuninties at the plate would be their downfall. Once again, both offenses would be firing on all cylinders in this game, with 25 total hits being recorded this time. While Beaver would tally 15 of the 25 total hits in this game, they would leave a staggering 13 runners stranded on the base paths throughout 7 innings. The team's inability to drive runs in would eventually lead to their downfall, as once again the final score would be 8-5, with Beaver being on the losing end this time around.
Beaver would end their season on Saturday by splitting their last doubleheader of the 2021 season with Penn State New Kensington. Beaver ends this season with a 7-20 overall record, while also holding a 5-20 record in conference play.
