Women's Basketball Falls to Penn State York

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball lost to PSUAC opponent Penn State York on Tuesday.

Schuylkill responded to York's 8-2 run at the start of the first quarter with an 8-4 stretch, capped off by a three-pointer by Ava Novak (Numidia, PA / Southern Columbia High School) with seconds remaining in the quarter, making it a one-possession game heading into the second.

Novak carried her momentum into the second quarter as she accounted for all eleven of Schuylkill's points during the period, scoring eight and finding Norma Thornhill (Washington D.C. / Eleanor Roosevelt High School) for a three with 5:39 remaining in the quarter.

With the score tied at 21 to begin the third quarter, York went on an early 6-0 run to make it a two-possession contest. Schuylkill continued to battle, bringing their deficit to two points before a late-quarter run by York saw them extend their lead to as many as ten points. York entered the final period up eight.

Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) knocked down a three-pointer on the first possession of the quarter, bringing Schuylkill within five. York immediately answered with a three of their own, but Crockett would not be denied as she cashed in on another basket from beyond the arc to narrow the score back to five.

A pair of made free throws by Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) brought Schuylkill within four with 8:35 remaining in the contest. York extended their lead to double digits on a three-pointer with 5:07 to go in regulation. York managed to hold on to their double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

Novak led Schuylkill with 22 points and 5 rebounds. Wright scored 11 points while Thornhill and Crockett finished with 10 points each in the loss.

Schuylkill (11-13 overall, 6-8 PSUAC) will travel to USCAA opponent Central Penn College on Thursday, February 8th. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
