DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Penn State Beaver women's soccer team suffered a second road loss this season after hitting the road to take on Defiance College (NC) on Sunday afternoon, 4-0.
The game went scoreless for the first few minutes in the first half, but Defiance College landed on the boards first with an early goal just shy of the 9-minute mark, putting Beaver down 1-0. In the next eight minutes, the Lady Lion defenders couldn't fend off Defiance College from attacking their box, allowing the opponents to attempt six shots and a corner kick--none of which connected to the net because they were too wide, a block and thanks to two saves by freshman Megan Bartley (Austintown/Austintown Fitch). The game went scoreless for the next 10 minutes, but it looked as Beaver's luck was about to change as sophomore Stephanie Sosa-Bravo (New York/Grand St. Campus) made her way down to Defiance College's side of the field and shot, but the shot was too wide. Then at the 34th minute, Beaver allowed Defiance College to score another goal, ending the half in a 2-0 deficit.
While Defiance College was getting the best of Beaver's defense by the box, Bartley kept Beaver in the game and hindered Defiance College from scoring with 12 saves by the 77_minute mark. However, Beaver couldn't hold off Defiance College from tallying up two more goals in the last 13 minutes and lost by a final score of 4-0.
Bartley, who goal-tended for 90 minutes, faced 28 SOG and made 24 saves.
The Lady Lions (0-2) will return to action Saturday, Sept. 14, where they will host PSUAC rival Penn State Schuylkill in their home opener at Wright Fields of Veteran's Park. Game time is at 2 p.m.
