Women’s Basketball Team Falls Short at USCAA National Tournament

The Penn State Shenango Women's Basketball team saw their historic run to the USCAA National Tournament end on Monday morning with a loss to Five Towns College, 70-63.

The Lady Lions kicked off the tournament on Sunday, March 11th at 1 PM with their opening round game against #7 Christendom. Shenango got off to a slow start, falling behind 48-26 at the end of the first half. The third quarter saw the Lady Lions cut the deficit by five, but Christendom was able to close things out, with the final score being 76-52.

Aneziah Fryer led the Lions in scoring with 16 points while pulling down 5 rebounds. All-American Shar'Da Williamson followed her efforts with 12 points in the game. Christendom's Mary Pennefather had a dominant performance with 33 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists.

After falling into the Consolation bracket, the Shenango Lady Lions found themselves in a tightly contested match against Five Towns College. While Five Towns was able to jump out to a 17-point lead in the first quarter, Shenango battled back closing the half with 41-31 deficit. The ladies dominated the 4th quarter, but were unable to completely close the gap, with the final score being 70-63.

Shar'Da Williamson led the Lions with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Aneziah Fryer poured in an additional 10, while Hailee Aguinaga pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Shenango Women's Basketball team heads in to the off-season for some well deserved rest after notching the program's first PSUAC playoff win, as well as securing the first USCAA Tournament birth in program history.
