Cairn Ends Brandywine’s Winning Streak At Six

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team saw its six-match winning streak come to a close Tuesday night as the Lions were defeated 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) at Cairn.

Brandywine scored nine of the night's first 10 points and maintained a 16-9 edge later during the first set; however, Cairn came all of the way back to take the lead following eight-straight points. A kill from Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) tied the count at 17-17, but the Highlanders recorded four of the next five points and later closed out the set with a kill.

After trailing by as many as seven points during the second frame, Brandywine chipped away at the Highlanders' lead, climbing within two on three occasions, before a Cairn error and Floyd kill knotted the score at 22-all. Following a Cairn timeout, the hosts notched two-straight points. Anna Ramirez (Exton, PA./Downingtown East) set down a kill for the Lions to get Brandywine back within one, but an error handed the second set to Cairn.

Brandywine answered a 7-2 Cairn run with a 10-3 surge, capped by a kill from Sophie Scrivo (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional), and the Lions took a 19-18 edge during set No. 3. The Highlanders countered with four-straight points to reclaim the lead and Brandywine was unable to mount another comeback as Cairn completed the sweep.

Floyd set a season high with 15 kills, while Ramirez tallied seven kills and Scrivo added five. Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) posted team bests with 19 assists and three aces.

Ramirez topped the defense with 16 digs and Scrivo notched 13, while Sydney Terrell (Walkersville, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) registered nine and Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) produced eight.

Brandywine (7-3, 5-0 PSUAC) is on the road again Thursday when the Lions travel to Albright at 7:00 PM.
