Crusaders Draw 2-2 vs PSU Greater Allegheny

McKeesport, PA – Christendom Crusaders  Men's Soccer Team and Penn State Greater Allegheny drew 2-2 in their match on Saturday, September 16th.

At the start of the match, the Crusaders set out to play with aggression. Despite their push, the Penn State Lions put in the first goal of the game off an unfortunate bounce past Christendom's keeper. As the game continued, both teams fought hard to control the game. The Lions put up a fight on offense, only to meet the Crusader's strong defense holding them from adding to their lead. Before the close of the half, Michael Townsend (Junior/ Front Royal, VA) controlled a Crusader's corner, taken by Sean Corcoran (Junior/ Lawrence, NJ), and buried a shot from outside the eighteen. The Crusader goal brought the game to a 1-1 tie at the end of the half.

Early in the second half, the Lions found the back of the net, to reclaim the lead to 2-1 over the Crusaders. As the clock continued to run, neither team could get past the opposing defense. However, with less than five minutes remaining, Townsend hit a left foot volley off another corner from Corcoran to tie the game. Not long after the incredible goal from Christendom, the final whistle brought the game to a draw at 2-2.

Both the Crusader's keeper, John Hill (Sophomore/ Spring, TX) and the Crusader's defense had strong performances to secure the draw.
