Women's Basketball Finishes 2-0 Against Fisher

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball defeated NAIA opponent Fisher College 58-49 on Tuesday, winning the season series.

Fisher took an early lead, securing an 18-12 advantage at the start of the game. They maintained a 6-point lead at halftime, with both teams adding 14 points to their scores in the second quarter.

In the third period, Schuylkill orchestrated a 14-6 run with 2:16 left, propelling them to a 40-38 lead—marking their first lead of the game. Ava Novak (New Media, PA / Southern Columbia High School) contributed significantly, scoring 12 of Schuylkill's 18 points during the period. As the third quarter neared its end, Schuylkill held a four-point lead. In a crucial play, Monet Edwards (Philadelphia, PA / Swenson Arts and Technology High School) snatched a rebound from a Fisher defender and converted a layup at the buzzer, providing Schuylkill with extra momentum entering the fourth quarter.

Fisher initiated a 7-2 run at the start of the fourth, narrowing the gap to 46-45 with 7:53 remaining. Schuylkill responded swiftly with a 6-0 run, establishing a cushion. Despite Fisher reducing their deficit to three points with just over two minutes left, Schuylkill maintained control. Two successful free throws by Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) and a steal and score by Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) in the final minute sealed the victory for Schuylkill.

Novak finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds in the win. Jones added 9 points and 7 rebounds while Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) also scored 9 points. Wright contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds.

Schuylkill (5-9 overall, 2-4 PSUAC) will remain at home for their next three contests as they take on PSUAC opponent Penn State Beaver on Friday, January 12th. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
