Penn State Mont Alto - 70, Penn State Brandywine - 60

MONT ALTO, Pa - The women's basketball team hosted Penn State Brandywine in conference action on Tuesday night and pulled out a big win in a close game against the 2nd seed in the PSUAC East. Mont Alto spread the wealth as four players registered double-digit points. Kaleigh Hartman had another big outing as she led the team with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Dariana Perez also contributed a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Penn State Brandywine opened the scoring after both teams remained scoreless for the first three minutes. A three-pointer from Amanda Floyd and a pair of free throws from Kiara Koger put Brandywine up 5-0.
  • That lead wouldn't last long, as Amelia Fouch and Dariana Perez both hit three-pointers to put Mont Alto up 6-5 a minute later.
  • Mont Alto would continue this momentum through the end of the first quarter as they would stretch their lead to eight while holding Brandywine to one bucket in the last four minutes of the first.
  • Brandywine's Sierra Diawara hit a big three-pointer that brought her team within two with 7:11 left in the second. However, this would be the last points Brandywine would see until there was only 2:19 left in the half. Four Mont Alto players contributed to an 11-0 run through five minutes and finished the half with a 36-28 advantage over their opponents.
  • Mont Alto came out of the locker room with a strong defensive presence as they only allowed three baskets in the first seven minutes of the third quarter.
  • A pair of buckets each from Brandywine's Sierra Diawara and Amanda Floyd helped bring their team within nine to end the third.
  • This proved to be a momentum shift as Brandywine's Kiara Koger would bring them within four points with 4:12 left in the fourth.
  • However, Brandywine could not fully close the gap and free-throw shooting proved to be the difference maker in the final minutes as Mont Alto shot 13 and connected with 10 in the last three minutes of the game.
  • Shanez Morales ended the game with a pair of free throws and sealed the victory for Mont Alto 70-60.
