Brandywine Downs Rosemont 3-1

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team extended its winning streak to four consecutive matches by defeating Rosemont College 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-17) on Wednesday night.

Brandywine trailed by as many as five points during the opening set before rallying late in the frame to take the game, 25-19. The Lions faced a 16-12 deficit, but collected 13 of the set's final 19 points, aided by a combined six kills from Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and two service aces by Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont).

The Lions started slow again during the second frame, falling behind 13-6; however, a kill by Ramirez started a 6-0 spurt that brought Brandywine within one. Following consecutive kills by Kaitlin Connors (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) and Ramirez, a Rosemont error gave Brandywine its first lead of the period at 18-17. Brandywine reeled off six consecutive points in all to make the margin 21-17 and later put the set away thanks to a kill from Sophie Scrivo (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional).

The Ravens led nearly wire-to-wire during the third set and avoided the sweep by winning 25-18.

Brandywine bounced back to claim the fourth set and the match. The Lions broke open a closely-contested stanza with five consecutive points, including kills from Ramirez and Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) and another Stevens' ace, building a seven-point edge. Rosemont could not trim the gap to fewer than five points the rest of the way.

Ramirez led the way for the Lions with 17 kills and 21 digs, while Floyd notched nine kills and Connors added six. Sydney Terrell (Walkersville, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) recorded 20 assists and Scrivo tallied 11 helpers, along with four kills.

Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) collected a team-high 26 digs and Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) produced 10 digs, while Berry topped the Lions with three blocks.
