Women's Volleyball Loses Both Matches at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Volleyball finished 0-2 during their tri-match at Immaculata University.

The first set saw Immaculata take an early lead at 13-7. Immaculata then went on an 11-0 run to claim the first set victory.

The second set remained closely contested, with Immaculata maintaining a lead that didn't surpass four points. Schuylkill, staying within a point at 20-19, fought hard, but a crucial 4-0 stretch by Immaculata ultimately secured the set for the home team.

Schuylkill came out strong in the third set, initiating a 4-0 run highlighted by three consecutive kills from Maddy Robinson (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain) all assisted by Ava Seltzer (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Schuylkill Haven). A pivotal moment came with Schuylkill launching a 7-0 run, featuring two kills by Sydney Morton (Norfolk, VA / Gateway Christian Academy) assisted by Seltzer, giving Schuylkill a 21-20 lead. However, Immaculata countered with a 5-0 run to claim the third set victory and seal the overall match.

John Jay 3, Penn State Schuylkill 0

The first period saw both teams battling for control, with the score neck and neck. A 9-1 run by John Jay gave them a 24-12 lead. Undeterred, Schuylkill fought back with a 3-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Mahea Kelley (Bowie, MD / Bowie), assisted by Sydney Morton (Norfolk, VA / Gateway Christian Academy). A bad set by Schuylkill secured the first set win for John Jay.

The second set began with John Jay taking an early 9-2 lead after an 8-0 run. Schuylkill responded with three consecutive points, including a kill from Morton assisted by Ava Seltzer (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Schuylkill Haven). Although Schuylkill brought their deficit within a point, they were unable to overtake John Jay College, who maintained their lead and secured the second set.

John Jay got on to a 9-2 start to begin the third set and was able to maintain the lead the rest of the way.

Schuylkill (5-9 overall, 2-5 PSUAC) will be on the road Monday as they travel to PSUAC opponent Penn State Lehigh Valley. Start time for that contest is 7:00 p.m.
