Mont Alto Downs Brandywine 70-60

MONT ALTO, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine was downed by a score of 70-60 by Penn State Mont Alto in a Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup on Tuesday night.

Brandywine forced 31 Mont Alto turnovers, but the difference in the game came at the free throw line, where Mont Alto was 26-of-34 and Brandywine shot just 8-of-17, and on the boards as Mont Alto held a 64-40 edge.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) produced team highs with 25 points, nine rebounds and five steals, while Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) poured in 16 points. Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) chipped in eight points and Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) tallied seven points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Brandywine scored the first five points of the night, but Mont Alto answered with eight-straight and 18 of the final 23 points during the first quarter to open up an 18-10 advantage.

The Lions closed within 22-20 following a triple from Diawara at the 7:11 mark; however, Mont Alto countered with 11 consecutive points and brought a 36-28 edge into halftime.

Brandywine was limited to just two points during the first six minutes of the third period as the hosts ballooned their lead to 17 points. The Lions made a push late in the quarter, closing the gap to 51-42 on a Floyd layup just before the buzzer.

The comeback bid continued into the fourth quarter for Brandywine. Two Floyd free throws got Brandywine to within six with 5:15 to go and Allen added a bucket 1:03 later to trim the margin to four; however, Mont Alto answered with the next four points, all at the free throw line, and knocked down six free throws during the final 57 seconds to preserve the victory.

Brandywine (5-8, 5-4 PSUAC) will be on the road again Wednesday when the Lions visit Lancaster Bible at 5:00 PM.
