Shenango falls in heartbreaker on Pink Out Night

The Penn State Shenango Women's Volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker in 5 sets on Thursday night.  In front of a packed-out Buhl Club, the Lady Lions battled with Penn State DuBois, forcing a 5th set in what was the longest match of the season.

In the first set, the teams went back and forth before Shenango took an 18-17 lead and never looked back, finishing the set 25-19.  The second set saw DuBois take an early lead and they kept the pedal down, taking the set 25-20.  The third set looked like it was going to be a lopsided affair when DuBois took a 12-5 lead, but Shenango clawed their way back into the set, closing the gap to 20-16.  They ultimately dropped the third set, 25-21.

The fourth set was hotly contested as both teams traded the lead multiple times throughout.  Shenango ended up getting the better of DuBois, rallying for the final three points and the set win.  The final set saw Shenango play a man down due to injury, going 5-on-6 with DuBois for most of the set.  Shenango put up a strong fight but couldn't outlast DuBois, losing the set 15-13.

Shenango was led by Kylee Loreno who set two program records in the match with 21 kills and 35 digs, respectively.  Emma Murdock also broke the prior program record with 33 digs of her own. Kiara Varion added 33 assists in the loss as well.

The Lady Lions are back on the court on Saturday for a tri-match against Penn State New Kensington and Penn State Mont Alto.  The first serve is set for 11:00 AM.
