UNIONTOWN, Penn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team finished its season with its second ever United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Final Four appearance on Tuesday, Mar. 10— defeated 63-49 by the #1 Nittany Lions from Penn State University Beaver.

SMCC was outscored in both of the first two quarters but cut the deficit by winning the third 17-11. The SeaWolves shrunk the gap to just four points with 7:17 left in regulation before the Lions shifted the momentum with a 9-2 run.

Fist-year's Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) and Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) logged double-doubles combining for 26 points and 21 rebounds. Junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) netted 15 points on 6-16 shooting.

Three finished in double figures for the Lions led by Diamond Thomas' 16 on 6-14 shooting—Thomas adding nine rebounds in 34 minutes of play. The opposition's Jimya Chambers tallied the unconventional double-double with 15 points and 12 steals.

The SeaWolves were unable to connect with a three-pointer and converted at only a 38.5 percent clip from the free-throw line—also the victim to 27 points off turnovers.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Katie Stannard commented, "This season was an incredible experience both on and off the floor. As a young group, we've achieved so much as basketball players and young women and set the framework to surely find success next season. Again, thank you to my seniors—without your leadership we don't climb the mountain."

The Lady SeaWolves conclude their season at 24-7—matching the highest win total in program history (2017).

Penn State Beaver would go on to defeat Central Maine Community College in the Div. 2 National Championship game on Wednesday, Mar. 11.
