Greater Allegheny Deals Brandywine First League Losses

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Greater Allegheny limited Penn State Brandywine to just four runs in two games and handed the Lions their first two PSUAC baseball losses by scores of 11-2 and 6-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine dropped to 8-2 in PSUAC play (14-12 overall), while Greater Allegheny took over sole possession of first place at 8-0. Brandywine hosts Beaver, which owns a 9-1 conference mark, on Sunday afternoon.

Greater Allegheny used three-straight singles to take a 1-0 lead after one inning in the opener. GA broke the game open by pushing across four runs in both the fourth and fifth frames.

Gabe Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Evan Cline (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) collected back-to-back singles to open the sixth inning. John Gorgone's (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) groundout scored Encarnacion and Chris Skahill (Media, Pa./Penncrest) followed with an RBI groundout that plated Cline to account for Brandywine's pair of runs.

Brian Pennock (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) took the loss for Brandywine after allowing seven earned runs on 11 hits and striking out two in 5.0 innings, while Eddie Emes fanned nine and surrendered two earned runs for GA, earning his fourth win.

Encarnacion, Josh Dellipriscoli (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) and Tommy Crumlish (Upper Darby, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) all recorded two hits for Brandywine.

Greater Allegheny built a 4-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth in game two, but Brandywine struck for a pair of runs to cut its deficit in half. Nick Horan (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) worked a one-out walk and two batters later, moved to second when Crumlish singled. Tom Osenbach's (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) two-out double drove in both base runners.

However, Greater Allegheny answered with a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning and Brandywine would get no closer.

Crumlish and Horan both recorded two of Brandywine's six hits in game two. Carmen Scota (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) saw his record drop to 3-2 this spring after giving up six runs in 6.0 innings.
