Brandywine Marches Into PSUAC Championship With 6-0 Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- No. 1 seed Penn State Brandywine will play for its seventh-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer championship after defeating fourth-seeded Penn State Greater Allegheny 6-0 during the conference tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine, winner of eight of the last nine conference crowns, received goals from five different players, while blanking Greater Allegheny for the second time in two weeks.

After a scoreless first 28 minutes, Brandywine found the back of the net twice in a span of 1:34 to seize control of the match. Tyrese Sanchez (Bethel, Pa./Tulpehocken) got the goal scoring started by heading in Francis Sarpong's (Germantown, Md./Northwest) crossing pass at the 28:17 mark. Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) followed with the second goal thanks to a feed from Christian Zavala (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) and Brandywine brought a 2-0 edge into halftime.

Brandywine piled on the goals during the final 45 minutes, adding four markers.

Caiden Smith's (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) long throw in found the head of Raymond Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and Kelly sent the ball along to Jayden Barragan (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle), who deposited the third goal of the day for the Lions.

Just under two minutes later, Sarpong was taken down in the box, allowing Kyle Reuter (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) to deliver a penalty kick for a goal.

Alex Mocarski (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) followed his own initial shot that was stopped by Greater Allegheny keeper Chris Klinger and sent the rebound into the back of the net for a 5-0 Brandywine lead at the 62:27 mark.

A Greater Allegheny own goal secured the final marker of the day for the Lions.

Brandywine outshot Greater Allegheny 22-1, including a 14-0 edge during the second half. Lions' keeper Will Manarpaac (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) needed to make one stop to record the shutout.

Brandywine (16-3-2) will face either No. 2 Penn State New Kensington or No. 3 Penn State Lehigh Valley Tuesday at 4:00 PM inside Panzer Stadium in State College for the PSUAC championship.
