Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver baseball team took to the road to take on the men of Penn State Fayette on Thursday evening, losing 12-6 in their 9 inning matchup.
Coming into this game against Fayette having just broken a long losing streak, Beaver tried their hardest to keep the momentum of their last game alive. Both teams got on the board early, as they would trade runs in the first inning to make it a 1-1 game. However, it would be Fayette's ability to hit for power that would give them the edge in this game as the game went on, as they would rack up 6 extra-base hits in this game while Beaver would only tally a single double throughout the game. While Beaver might have out-hit Fayette by tallying 20 hits, compared to Fayette's 13, Fayette's ability to hit for power would lead to them driving in 12 runs. While neither team looked sharp on the mound or in the field, the story of the game was truly Fayette's ability to push runners across the plate with their power at the plate, as in the end Beaver just could not get the run support that they needed to keep the game close. When it was all said and done, it would be Fayette who would walk away with a 12-6 victory.
Even though Beaver was not able to secure a victory on Thursday, the team shined on offense. Sophomore Eric Kim (John's Creek, Ga / Chattahoochee) was Beaver's offensive star of the day, going 4-5 with an RBI and scoring 3 runs in Beaver's losing effort. The team now sits at 4-19 overall, with a 2-19 in conference record. Beaver will return to action on Friday, April 23, playing host to Penn State New Kensington for a doubleheader. The games will take place at New Brighton High School's field, and game one is set to start at 2 pm, with game two to follow at 4 pm.
