Brandywine Records Senior Day Sweep

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team closed out its regular season by sweeping Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Senior Day, earning a 3-0 victory by scores of 27-25, 25-11, 25-11, Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine had to fight back from a 16-9 deficit to win the opening set. Following a timeout, Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) recorded a kill to start a run of six-straight Brandywine points. Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added four consecutive kills, including one that brought the Lions within one at 16-15. The visitors pushed their lead back to four points; however, Brandywine recorded seven of the next nine tallies to take their first lead of the set at 23-22. Wilkes-Barre retook the lead with back-to-back points before a kill from Ramirez tied the count at 24-all. After Wilkes-Barre again went in front, another Ramirez kill staved off set point. Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) followed with a kill, while a Wilkes-Barre error gave the set to Brandywine by a 27-25 margin.

The Lions carried the momentum into the second set, building a 10-3 edge before a 10-1 surge made the count 20-6. Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) and Floyd combined for four kills to aid the run as Brandywine eased to a 2-0 lead in the match.

Brandywine rolled through the final stanza, again scoring 10 of the first 13 points. Consecutive kills from Stevens extended the Lions' edge to 17-5 and Floyd later capped the victory with her 14th kill of the day.

Ramirez added 11 kills, while Berry and Sydney Terrell (Walkersville, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) both tallied six. Terrell split setting duties with Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) as Terrell notched 14 assists and Jezyk collected 20.

Terrell and Stevens both recorded five service aces, while Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) added four and matched Terrell with a team-high 13 digs. Stevens and Jezyk both added eight digs.

Brandywine (12-7, 9-3 PSUAC) will be the No. 3 seed from the PSUAC East Division and will visit No. 2 Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in a conference tournament quarterfinal match.
