Brandywine Drops Home Matchup To Neumann

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team was defeated 74-52 by Neumann University on Wednesday night in non-conference action.

The Lions scored seven of the game's first nine points, but Neumann answered with an 18-3 run to close out the first quarter with a 10-point edge.

The Knights moved their lead to 15 points by the midway mark of the second period before Brandywine made a run, using two triples from Katelyn Johnson (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) during a 10-3 spurt, to close within 32-25 with 3:33 to go in the opening half; however, Neumann held Brandywine without a point the rest of the stanza, extending the margin to 12 points.

Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) trimmed the gap to seven points by burying a triple early in the third, but that is as close as the Lions would get. Lauren Kleiber took over for Neumann, scoring 16 of the Knights' 28 third quarter points as the visitors built a 25-point lead.

Allen tallied a team-high 20 points and pulled in five rebounds, while Johnson was 4-for-4 shooting en route to scoring 10 points. Athena Brombacher (Vacaville, Calif./Will C. Wood) contributed nine points and a team-best six boards.

Brandywine (3-5, 3-2 PSUAC) wraps up the first half of the season Saturday evening at Penn State Lehigh Valley beginning at 5:00 PM.
