DuBois Edges Brandywine 62-54

MEDIA, Pa. – The second quarter was the difference as Penn State DuBois outscored Penn State Brandywine 26-5 and handed the Lions' women's basketball team a 62-54 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine scored the final five points of the opening quarter, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), to lead 13-6.

Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) buried a triple to open the second period, but that would be the Lions' lone made field goal of the quarter. DuBois outscored Brandywine 26-2 over the final nine minutes to open up a 32-18 edge at the break.

Brandywine trimmed the DuBois lead to 11 after three quarters and came within eight points on two occasions early in the fourth; however, DuBois had an answer each time.

After the visitors pushed the margin back to 13 points, Brandywine made a push during the final minutes. Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) sank a layup and Athena Brombacher (Vacaville, Calif./Will C. Wood) added a free throw before Floyd notched five-straight points and Brandywine climbed within five with 2:38 to go.

Brandywine would get no closer however as DuBois outscored the Lions 5-0 during the next 1:43 to seize control of the game.

Floyd notched team highs with 16 points and 10 steals, while grabbing seven rebounds. Brombacher produced a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double and contributed four steals, while Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) added 10 points, five steals and three blocked shots.

Brandywine won the turnover battle by forcing 34 DuBois turnovers, while committing just 11, but was limited to 27 percent shooting. DuBois held a 56-33 advantage on the boards.

Brandywine (3-4, 3-2 PSUAC) closes out its four-game home stand Wednesday against Neumann at 7:00 PM.
