Brandywine Sweeps Through Schuylkill 3-0

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine eased to a straight-set sweep of Penn State Schuylkill, earning its second Penn State University Athletic Conference volleyball victory of the year, by scores of 25-4, 25-7, 25-15 on Saturday afternoon.

The teams were tied 4-4 during the first set, but Brandywine ripped off 21-straight points, including eight service aces from Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) to claim a 1-0 lead.

The second set was more of the same for the Lions, who led 7-4 before using a 14-2 surge to grab a 15-point cushion. Two aces from Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) and two Schuylkill errors put the set away as Brandywine opened up a 2-0 advantage.

Brandywine led 12-2 early during the final set and never allowed Schuylkill to get closer than seven. The Lions closed out their first sweep of the season by a 25-15 count.

Brandywine produced 16 aces, half of which came via Stevens, while Sydney Terrell (Walkersville, Md./St. John's Catholic Prep) collected four aces. Terrell also notched a team-high 14 assists and Sophie Scrivo (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional) added nine.

Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) tallied a team-best 12 kills and Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) recorded seven.

Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) topped the Lions with 12 digs and Alvarenga added nine, while Ramirez produced seven. Floyd and Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) both tallied two blocks.

Brandywine (3-2, 2-0 PSUAC) will visit Penn State Lehigh Valley Monday night at 7:00 PM.
