Volleyball Goes 1-2 at PSU Beaver Tournament

Beaver, PA – Christendom College Volleyball Team gained their first victory of the season, going 1-2 in the Penn State Beaver Tournament September 1st and 2nd. Despite a 3-1 loss to Cincinnati Clermont, the Crusaders came on strong in the following game to win their match 3-1 against Penn State Du Bois. On Saturday, the Crusaders were unable to come away with the match, falling 3-0 to Penn State Fayette.

In their first match of the tournament, the Crusaders came out strong. Although the set was close, the Crusaders were victorious 25-20 over the Cincinnati Clermont Cougars. Unable to maintain their momentum the Crusaders fell 14-25 in the second set. Despite losing the third and fourth sets of the match, Christendom's defense played impressive games, keeping the sets close at 25-27 and 21-25. Crusader's Grace Black (Freshman/ Omaha, NE) had an impressive game, ending the match with 11 kills.

Despite coming off a loss, the Crusaders brought new aggression to the court in their second match of the tournament. Penn State Du Bois took the first set 28-26. But the Crusaders responded strong, taking the next three sets 25-18, 25-21, and 25-16. Thanks to the team's aggressive play all around the court, Christendom College triumphed over the Nittany Lions 3-1. Players Catherine Brezinsky (Junior/ Montrose, CO) and Nora Ross (Sophomore/ Tulsa, OK) contributed greatly to the game, each having 17 digs.

The Crusaders took on Penn State Fayette in their final game of the Penn State Beaver Tournament. Christendom was unable to carry the momentum from their previous victory into this final match. The Nittany Lions took the first set 25-11. Although the Crusaders elevated play in the second set, they fell again to the Lions 25-23. In the final set, Christendom again came up short to Penn State, losing 25-19. They could not secure the win, but Crusaders Regina Cousino (Sophomore/ Ann Arbor, MI) and Eibhilin McCloskey (Junior/ Lincoln, NE) brought a strong defensive game to the court.

The Crusaders brought intensity to the court this weekend. The team finished the Penn State Beaver Tournament 1-2, securing their first victory of the season.

Up Next: The Christendom Volleyball Team has their home opener this upcoming Saturday, September 9th. The Team will host a try match and the Crusaders are scheduled for 12noon and 3pm start times.
