Women's Basketball Loses Matchup to Penn State Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball lost to PSUAC opponent Penn State Brandywine on Saturday.

Saturday was a hard-fought matchup with the score tied at 18 at the conclusion of the first half. Trailing by a basket with 7:41 remaining in the second quarter, Malak Mowafi (Iselin, NJ / John F Kennedy Memorial High School) knocked down a jumper to level the score for Schuylkill at 22 apiece. Brandywine then went on a 7-0 run to make it a three-possession game with 5:53 to go in the quarter. An 11-4 run for Schuylkill to close the half brought their deficit to 35-33 heading into halftime.

Consecutive baskets by Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) gave Schuylkill a 37-35 lead 1:05 into the second half. Brandywine pushed their lead out to as many as six points during the quarter before Schuylkill closed the gap to four by the end of the quarter.

Brandywine came out aggressively during the fourth quarter, going on a run that extended their lead to double digits. Brandywine maintained their lead for the remainder of regulation.

Jones posted a 17-point, 11 rebound double-double for Schuylkill. Ava Novak (Numidia, PA / Southern Columbia High School) added 16 points and 8 rebounds. Mowafi finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) added 9 points and 9 rebounds in the loss.

Schuylkill (7-11 overall, 4-6 PSUAC) will travel to NCAA Division III opponent University of Valley Forge on Monday, January 22 for their next contest. Tip off time is set for 7:00 p.m.
