Penn State Wilkes-Barre Wins Game on West Road Trip

vs. Penn State Beaver 

Monaca, PA – In the first game of the double header, Penn State Beaver jumped out to an early three run lead in the first inning on a walk followed by four straight singles. In the bottom of the second inning Beaver's offense would ignite for thirteen runs on ten hits to add to the lead. Penn State Wilkes-Barre would strike for a run in the top of the third after John Cowell doubled and then scored on a passed ball. In the bottom of the third, Beaver would answer with three runs scoring on a wild pitch, a walk, and a SAC fly to push the lead to 19-1. Wilkes-Barre would try to lower the deficit in the top of the fifth adding runs on  Kerry Meyers, Sean-Paul Williamson, and Cahil Carey singles. 

In game two Wilkes-Barre took the early lead in the top of the second inning when Alex Klinger reached on an error allowing Alan Gulbierz to score. Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring for Wilkes-Barre, as Beaver would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, fifth, and sixth. 

vs. Greater Allegheny

Butler, PA – Greater Allegheny would be the first to get on the board, scoring on a wild pitch and a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second inning, Wilkes-Barre would answer with Frank Brodi scoring on an Eric Adamcyzk double to center field. Adamcyzk would score two batters later on a Brandon Sandrowicz single to right field. Wilkes-Barre would then add to the lead in the top of the third inning with Williamson singling and then scoring on a Brodi single to center field. Wilkes-Barre would hold the lead until the bottom of the fifth when a Greater Alleghany player singled to left field scoring two, taking the lead.

In game two, Greater Alleghany jumped on the board early picking up a run in the bottom of the first, but would be answered by Wilkes-Barre in the top of the third inning on a Meyers ground out allowing Eric Gurzynski to score. Wilkes- Barre would add to the lead in the top of the sixth inning on singles by Gurzynski, Mike Delaney, and Meyers. Daniel Constantino got Greater Alleghany 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Wilkes-Barre it first win of the season. 

Wilkes-Barre 1-4 (1-3) returns to action Saturday, April 9th for a double header at home against Penn State DuBois at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
