Women's Volleyball Tops Valley Forge 3-1 in Season Opener

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Volleyball opened their regular season against NCAA Division III opponent University of Valley Forge. Schuylkill went on to defeat Valley Forge in four sets.

Set 1: Schuylkill's Comeback

The first set saw Schuylkill initially trailing 7-11, but they weren't ready to concede. They rallied with a remarkable 5-0 stretch, fueled by two aces from Tiffany Bohner (Hegins, PA / Tri Valley) and a kill from Sydney Morton (Norfolk, VA / Gateway Christian Academy) The set continued with both teams trading points, but it was Maddy Robinson (Auburn, PA / Blue Mountain) who delivered a crucial kill to secure a 25-22 win for Schuylkill in the first set.

Set 2: Schuylkill Dominance

Schuylkill came out strong in the second set, going on a 6-2 run highlighted by two kills from Tajae Stevenson (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy) and a kill from Morton, all assisted by Ava Seltzer (Schuylkill Haven, PA / Schuylkill Haven). However, Valley Forge fought back with two aces and some errors, leveling the game at 6-6, prompting a Schuylkill timeout. After the timeout, Schuylkill found their rhythm and dominated the rest of the set, winning convincingly with a score of 25-13.

Set 3: Valley Forge's Response

Valley Forge managed to turn the tide in the third set, taking a 24-22 lead. Just when it seemed they were on the verge of their first set victory, Schuylkill received a serving error, giving Valley Forge their first win of the day.

Set 4: Schuylkill's Strong Finish

With Valley Forge leading 11-4 in the third set, Schuylkill began to mount a comeback. Robinson ignited the fire with two consecutive aces, and Sierra Wishnefsky (Lavelle, PA / North Schuylkill) stepped up with three consecutive aces of her own, giving Schuylkill a 13-12 lead. Mahea Kelley (Bowie, MD / Bowie) and Morton continued to contribute, helping Schuylkill secure 8 out of the next 11 points. The contest came to an exciting end with a kill by Robinson.

Schuylkill (1-0 overall, 0-0 PSUAC) will play the second game of their back-to-back Saturday, September 2nd as they host Saint Elizabeth University in what will be their home opener. Start time is 12:00 p.m.
