ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine scored the match's lone goal and sent Penn State Lehigh Valley to its first loss in 10 matches this season as the Lions claimed a 1-0 Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer victory on Wednesday afternoon.
Brandywine blanked Lehigh Valley for the eighth-straight meeting, while extending its conference unbeaten streak to 81-straight matches.
The majority of the scoring chances came during the first half as the Lions outshot Lehigh Valley 5-4 during the opening 45 minutes, but neither side could push across a goal.
Brandywine broke through during the 66th minute, netting the match's lone marker. Francis Sarpong (Germantown, Md./Northwest) struck for his first goal of the season off a feed from Mateo Loyo (Portchester, N.Y./Iona Preparatory), one of just two shots for the Lions during the second period.
Brandywine's defense made the goal stand up as the Lions held Lehigh Valley without a shot attempt over the final 61 minutes. Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson), who was named PSUAC Goalie of the Week on Wednesday, made four stops during the first half as Brandywine produced its eighth shutout of the fall.
Brandywine (9-3-2, 2-0-1 PSUAC) will host Penn State Beaver for Senior Day on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
