Brandywine Tops Wilson 2-1 With Simpson’s Late Goal

MEDIA, Pa. -- Omar Simpson (Bear, Del./Christiana) broke a 1-1 deadlock with a goal during the 81st minute as the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over Wilson on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine conceded the match's first goal as Jorge Cortez headed in a free kick at the 21:57 mark of the first half, but the Lions struck for the equalizer just under seven minutes later.

Chris Manful (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) found a loose ball and centered a pass to Ali Abdelhady (Dubai, UAE/Nord Anglia International School), who netted a goal for the fifth-straight game.

The score remained the same until the 81st minute when Manful took the ball down the sideline and found Simpson driving toward the net. Simpson headed Manful's feed in just under the cross bar with what proved to be the match's winning goal.

Brandywine held a slim 7-5 margin in shots on goal, paced by three attempts off the foot of Manful. The Lions' Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) stopped four of the five shots he faced, including both during the second half, to earn his seventh win of the season.

Brandywine (7-3-2, 1-0-1 PSUAC) will take its six-match unbeaten streak on the road Monday when the Lions visit Bucks County at 3:30 PM.
