Beaver comes up short against Wilkes-Barre on the road

Lehman, Pa.— The Penn State Beaver Lions ended their four-game winning streak after losing to Wilkes-Barre on the road Saturday, 73-45.
Freshman guard Keon Butler (Annapolis/Star Severn School) led Beaver's scoring with 17 points followed by junior guard John Foster (Austin/Del Valle), who added 9 points to the game.
1st half: The first half opened with Wilkes-Barre making a 6-0 run in the first two and a half minutes of the game. 24 seconds later, freshman forward/center Jeremy Redwine (Merced) scored a jump shot on an assist by freshman guard Sonny Martinez (Austin) got Beaver on the scoreboard (6-2). At 16:48, a foul by Wilkes-Barre sent Foster to the free-throw line, where he went 1-2 to make it a one-possession game (6-3). But Wilkes-Barre made an 11-point run to put Beaver down by 11 at the 13:45 mark. As the clock ran out in the first, Beaver trailed by 19 points at the half (38-19).
2nd half: While the teams were closer in scoring in the second half, with Beaver only scoring 9 points less than Wilkes-Barre, the Lions couldn't recover from the early deficit, and fell to Wilkes-Barre by a final score of 73-45.
Box Score Highlights: Beaver shot 15 percent higher than Wilkes-Barre from the free-throw line (13-20), outscored Wilkes-Barre 8-5 on second-chance points and allotted four fewer turnovers.
Beaver now sits at a 2-1 record in the PSUAC standing and with a 4-2 regular season record.
The Lions are on the road Wednesday, Dec. 5, where they face off against conference rival Penn State Shenango. Game time is 7 p.m.
