Beaver Defeats Schuylkill to Advance to PSUAC Championship
Beaver trumps Schuylkill, 7-2.
Dubois, PA -- Beaver takes down Schuylkill to advance to the PSUAC Baseball Championship.
After splitting with Schuylkill in the regular season, Beaver, who has been hot all weekend, looked to keep their tournament win streak alive. Through the first two innings both teams played stingy defense, holding the other scoreless. In the top of the third inning, Jake Debo (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) hit a two-run home run to put Beaver on the board, his second of the day and fifth of the season. In the bottom of the inning Schuylkill would answer with a two-run shot of their own to tie the game at two.
After a scoreless fourth, Stephen Antolic (Freedom, PA / Ambridge) hit a 2-RBI double in the fifth to regain the lead in the game, 4-2. This was the shift in the momentum that Beaver needed as they held Schuyllkill hitless in their next two at bats. In the top of the seventh inning, the Beaver bats came alive again as the first three batters reached base safely followed by Schuylkill walking in a run. With the 5-2 lead, Antolic hit a deep ball to center field that would score an additional two runs despite being a double play ball.
Debo, a leader on both sides of the ball tonight, went 2 for 2 from the plate with 3 RBI's including his second homer of the day. On the mound he threw a complete game, giving up just one earned run and striking out 4 of the 32 batters faced for an ERA of 1.29.
Beaver, who is undefeated in the tournament, advances to the championship game tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. against the winner of Game 7 (Mont Alto vs Schuylkill).
