Women's Basketball Drops Matchup Against Penn State Greater Allegheny

MCKEESPORT, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball lost their matchup to PSUAC opponent Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday.

Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) initiated the scoring for both teams by making the first basket of the contest with 7:15 remaining in the opening quarter. A 14-2 run by Greater Allegheny extended their lead to 10 with 2:58 remaining in the first period. Jones led Schuylkill offensively throughout the quarter, contributing 9 of the 12 Schuylkill points.

Schuylkill reduced their deficit to 4 points on several occasions during the second quarter. A late-quarter surge by Greater Allegheny increased their lead to 14 points heading into the second half. Both teams demonstrated efficient shooting in the second quarter, with Greater Allegheny shooting 64 percent from the field compared to Schuylkill's 58 percent.

Greater Allegheny maintained their hot shooting in the second half, outscoring Schuylkill 27-7 during the third period and achieving similar success in the final period of play.

Ava Novak (New Media, PA / Southern Columbia High School) posted team highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jones and Katelynn Himes (Frackville, PA / North Schuylkill High School) scored 11 points each in the loss.

Schuylkill (3-9 overall, 2-4 PSUAC) will return to action in 2024 as they host Fisher College in back-to-back games on January 8th and 9th.
