Men's Soccer Wins Home Opener Against Penn State Hazleton

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Men's Soccer hosted Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday in what was their first home matchup of the season. Schuylkill emerged victorious, defeating Hazleton 4-2.

The game got off to an electric start with both teams displaying incredible back-and-forth action in the early minutes. The first goal of the match came from Karter Drumm (Enola, PA / East Pennsboro) Drumm's precise strike found the back of the net at the 22:08 mark, assisted by Pau Pumarola (Barcelona, Spain / IMG Academy).

Schuylkill didn't stop there; they struck again just moments later at the 25:14 mark, when Isaac Smith (Apo, Germany / Wiesbaden High School) capitalized on a scoring opportunity, assisted by Jesus Meza (Shenandoah, PA / Shenandoah Valley).

Hazleton managed to get on the scoreboard as well, with their first goal of the contest coming just two minutes into the second period. The competition remained fierce, and Hazleton was determined to stay in the game.

However, Penn State Schuylkill showed their resilience when Meza netted yet another goal for Schuylkill at 54:18, re-establishing their lead. The momentum shifted once more, and Hazleton responded with a goal of their own at 58:35.

As the match reached its closing moments, Jacob Hernandez (Bayonne, NJ / Middletown Area) scored a pivotal goal at 88:37, effectively putting the game out of reach for Hazleton. Hernandez's goal sealed the victory for Schuylkill, with a final score of 4-2.

The shot matchup was pretty even as Hazleton totaled 18 shots for the contest to Schuylkill's 15. Vinny Schlosser (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua Area) came up with 10 huge saves as he went on to win his matchup.

Schuylkill (1-1 overall) will resume last Thursday's matchup against Penn State York on Friday, September 15th at 4:00 p.m. The initial matchup was suspended due to weather conditions.
