Crusaders Battle Back to .500 with Win Over Lions

Front Royal, VA – On October 3rd, Christendom College Men's Soccer Team fought hard to secure the win 4-1 against Penn State Beaver.

As the first half began, both the Crusaders and the Lions brought solid play, giving the match an even start. Despite this, the Lions took the lead early in the half. It did not take the Crusaders long to respond. Only 2 minutes after the Lions' goal, Christendom's Sean Corcoran (Junior/ Lawrence, NJ) broke through the opponent's defense and headed the ball into the back of the net off his own rebound. Shortly after their first goal, the Crusaders smart playing created another offensive opportunity. Off a pass from Ryan Welch (Sophomore/ Atlanta, GA), Isaias Odiatu (Freshman/ Winnipeg, Canada) volleyed a shot over the goalie, giving the Crusaders a 2-1 lead. The Crusaders maintained their 2-1 lead to close the first half.

The second half was even for the first 35 minutes, neither team able to break through. However, with 10 minutes remaining, Christendom picked up the intensity once again. Corcoran placed the ball in a low corner of the net off a through ball from Odiatu. To top off the lead, Odiatu put in another goal giving the Crusaders a 3 goal advantage. Overall, the Crusaders played a strong game, creating good plays throughout both the halves.
