Women's Basketball Drops Matchup Against Penn State Mont Alto

MONT ALTO, Pa. - Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball fell to PSUAC West Division opponent Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday.

Schuylkill got off to an early start, going on an 8-2 run to begin the contest. Mont Alto managed to close the gap to two by the end of the first.

With Schuylkill leading 21-17 with 3:52 remaining, Schuylkill went on a 10-2 run to extend their lead to double digits following a made three by Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School). Mont Alto connected on a three pointer with 40 seconds remaining in the half to bring their deficit within single digits. Ava Novak (Numidia, PA / Southern Columbia High School) then responded with a three of her own on the next possession, restoring Schuylkill's double digit lead heading into halftime. Schuylkill shot 53 percent from the field during the first half.  

Schuylkill was the aggressor to begin the second half, going on a 9-2 stretch to give them a 43-26 lead with 7:02 remaining in the third period. A run by Mont Alto during the latter part of the third quarter narrowed their deficit to single digits heading into the fourth.

Mont Alto's momentum continued into the fourth quarter with a 13-2 run to start the quarter, giving them their first lead of the contest with 4:09 remaining in regulation. Mont Alto held onto their lead for most of the final four minutes of the contest as they went on to defeat Schuylkill.

Crockett led Schuylkill in scoring with 11 points. Serena Jones (Tamaqua, PA / Tamaqua High School) recorded 9 points and 9 rebounds. Also scoring 9 points for Schuylkill was Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) who added 5 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals to her stat line and Novak who also grabbed 5 rebounds.

Schuylkill (13-16 overall, 7-11 PSUAC) has clinched the number 4 seed in the PSUAC playoffs and will take on number one seeded Penn State Lehigh Valley following their senior night matchup against Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Friday, February 21st. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
