Eagles Now 2-0 After Second Straight Three-Set Sweep

In a second straight three-set sweep to start the season, the Golden Eagles volleyball team won their first road match of the season at Penn State Shenango. KSU Tusc won by set scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-11 as they took down the Lions in Sharon, PA, on Saturday afternoon.

After opening with a 25-20 victory in the opener, the Eagles found themselves tied 18-18 in the second set before reeling off seven straight points to win 25-18.  Cayla Shrimplin served up the winning point with an ace to cut down the Lions.

The final set wasn't as close as the previous two, as the Eagles raced out to a 9-3 advantage and kept Shenango from getting any closer than five points at 10-5. They opened up a 23-9 lead before wrapping up the win with the same 14-point advantage (25-11).

Three Golden Eagles tallied eight points each on the afternoon, with Taliyah Johnson, Makenzie Ailes and Lizzy Keller leading the way. Kylie Culbertson had 21 assists and Shrimplin had 24 digs and four service aces. Addison Gordon and Keller both added 10 digs apiece.

As a team KSU Tusc had 29 kills as they raised their early season record to 2-0.

On Friday, the Eagles face Penn State Beaver at 2:00 p.m. followed by a match with Penn State Fayette at 4:00 p.m. in the USCAA Tip-Off Tournament in Monaca, PA.
