Women's Basketball Defeats Penn State Hazleton

HAZLETON, Pa. – Penn State Schuylkill Women's Basketball defeated PSUAC opponent Penn State Hazleton by a score of 52-50 on Tuesday.

Hazleton started off with a 13-4 run at the beginning of Tuesday's match. A 6-3 run during the latter half of the quarter brought Schuylkill within two possessions of tying the game.

A made three-pointer by Allison Crockett (Liverpool, PA / Greenwood High School) concluded a 7-0 run by Schuylkill to kick off the second quarter, granting them a 17-16 lead with 5:31 remaining in the second period. A 9-4 stretch by Hazleton gave them a 25-21 lead heading into halftime.

Schuylkill entered the second half determined, outscoring Hazleton 21-9 during the third quarter. Schuylkill regained the lead after a layup by Jasmine Wright (Sicklerville, NJ / Winslow Township High School) with 7:04 remaining in the period and extended it to as much as 11 before a late Hazleton layup brought the score to 42-33 at the close of the third quarter. The pair of Wright and Katelynn Himes (Frackville, PA / North Schuylkill High School) contributed to 16 of Schuylkill's 21 third-quarter points.

Trailing 51-42 with 5:11 to go in the contest, Hazleton went on an 11-3 stretch to bring them within a point with 51 seconds remaining in the game. Hazleton was compelled to play the foul game, and Schuylkill executed, going 6-6 from the line in the clutch to secure the victory.

Crockett led Schuylkill in scoring with 17 points. Wright finished with a 15-point, 10 rebound double-double. Himes added 12 points in the victory. Ava Novak (New Media, PA / Southern Columbia High School) notched a team-high 11 rebounds in the victory.

Schuylkill (2-8 overall, 1-3 PSUAC) will travel out west this weekend as they take on Penn State Dubois on Friday, followed by Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday.
